Heat Pumps

Why choose Heat Pumps?

Heat pumps harvest energy from the air, water or the ground and upgrade it for space heating and hot water use. Every £1 spent running a heat pump will give back up to £4 of heating making it one of the most cost-effective renewable energy systems available. A heat pump does not emit poisonous gasses so is safe in the home and it needs very little maintenance.

What are the benefits?

  • Low running costs
  • Easy to install
  • Up to 50% CO2 reductions
  • Complete replacement traditional boilers
  • Works efficiently all year round down to -20ºC
  • Typically draws 25 to 30% of the electricity of a standard heater, for the same amount of heating.
  • Low maintenance technology with few moving parts.
  • No flammable or potentially asphyxiating fuel is used at the point of heating, reducing the potential danger to users.
  • Eligible for Renewable Heat Incentive or RHI from late 2012.

The Renewable Heat Incentive - RHI

Plans are in place to pay a regular cash incentive  for using renewable energy systems such as heat pumps. Similar to the solar feed in tariff system money will be paid for each unit of heat produced in the home, business or community building – and the payments will continue for 20 years bringing a healthy financial return for going green. Heat pumps and solar power - a match made in heaven!

Heat pumps, being powered by electricity, are the perfect renewable energy partner for solar PV as any free energy generated through solar power can be used to heat your home. With careful use a heat pump and solar PV system in your home could mean an end to heating and electricity bills.
