First I had a personal pension plan maturing and it seemed a good idea to draw out the maximum cash element and use it for something a little more diverse.
Second, I have used small solar panels before for battery charging on boats and vehicles and have been impressed with their performance and robustness, so I liked the idea of a large scale system.
Third we are a little on the ‘green’ side here in Motcombe; we have a small smallholding and grow some of our vegetables and meat. The idea of solar electricity seemed to fit in well.
Why did I choose Ace Energy as my supplier? I guess the answer is that I wanted a well established local supplier which would be easily approachable f or not only the setting up of this quite substantial project, but would be quickly available to sort out any problems should they occur. I therefore telephoned Alan Seviour of Ace Energy Plumbing Heating & renewables in Shaftesbury and we met and discussed my requirements. I very much liked the Company’s professional and ‘non
-pushy’ approach. Another bonus with Ace is that they would telephone me when they said they would and all equipment arrive when needed and in good condition. Their electrician was first class and the system has worked well from commissioning. The number of kilowatt hours genera ted has been somewhat above my expectations, but I guess even Ace are not so good they can make the sun shine.
The initial quote from Ace for the system was exactly the amount paid, and so far it looks on target to pay approx 8% tax free.
